North American consumers will be given their first look of the 2011 Volvo S60 R-Design at the South Florida International Auto Show. In creating the S60 R-Design, Volvo took the standard S60 and made it even sportier.

Differences begin at the exterior. Sharp-eyes will note the more aggressive front- and rear-end treatments over the standard S60, as well as the 18-inch Diamond Cut wheels. Inside, the S60 R-Design comes equipped with special leather/textile sport seats with contrasting stitching. A unique steering wheel and gear selector are also part of the S60 R-Design.

Volvo, however, didnt simply make the S60 R-Design visually distinctive from the standard S60; they also made it dynamically superior. A strut tower brace stiffens the chassis. Springs 15 mm shorter and 15 percent stiffer, as well as stiffer bushings at the front and rear of the car, help contribute to superior handling over standard S60s.

While the S60 R-Design places an emphasis on sport, Volvo hasnt forgotten about its commitment to safety. Available on both the 2011 S60 and the 2012 S60 R-Design is Volvos new Pedestrian Detection system. Using a camera and radar, the system can detect if a pedestrian walks into the vehicles path. If the system determines that an impact is imminent the brakes are applied at full force in order to avoid collision.

For 40 years the South Florida International Auto Show has been a venue for showing off the latest and greatest in automobiles, and Volvo continues this tradition with the North American debut of the 2012 Volvo S60 R-Design.
